Oscar de la Renta, the famous fashion legend who dressed stars and became one, dies age of 82 after battling with cancer.
Widely known for dressing the most elegant women in the most stunning evening gowns, Oscar de la Renta has been dressing models, actors, socialites and politicians since the 1960s. I always look forward to seeing his new collections and red carpet pieces- I know that the Oscars red carpet will never be the same without him.
Oscar de la Renta's final catwalk collection, and the last before Peter Copping became the head of the fashion house, was inspired by floral designs and the joy of spring. It was displayed in September during New York Fashion Week 2015, and was definitely one of the more elegant and beautiful collections of the week.
There is no doubting his bridal work is exquisite. He recently designed Amal Alamuddin's wedding dress for her marriage with Geogre Clooney; and has previously dressed Jackie Kennedy, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Obama, Princess Diana, Hilary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey.
“I want to make clothes that people will wear, not styles that will make a big splash on the runway,” said Oscar de la Renta. “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.”
